I haven't used the Keymouse Alpha for more than three months. I wanted to pick it up and use it again, only to find that the whole area where my palms are supposed to rest has become sticky. It's the same kind of stickiness exhibited by deteriorating rubber coatings in other devices I've had. I tried getting rid of it with rubbing alcohol, but it didn't seem to do anything. I don't want to try anything stronger, like acetone, for fear of damaging the surface.

That is worrisome. I've never experienced that, but would be disappointed if it happened. Perhaps you need a hardener (as you would use with an epoxy mixture?) Try the support option (email or chat) with the KeyMouse folks to see if they have an idea. (And post your results here.)
Andri, sorry about the issue. When we got the coating originally, the specs showed it should be permanent, but our new products have no coating (we're using embedded permanent rubber stickers now) because of this issue. The paint is a 2 part water based paint, so I wonder if warm or hot water on a cloth would take it off, or maybe even carefully sanding it. Just have to be sure to not get any water or dust on the inside.
