Just collecting user input. Does anyone have a practical use case for storing more than 16 key layers on their KeyMouse devices? We want to keep the UI in the software as simple as possible, but if people want more, not a problem. If 16 is enough, we'll go with that for now. Also, any memory in the devices not used for key layers will be available for macros stored directly on the device (in a future firmware update).

I might benefit from 7 or 8 layers, but 16 layers is difficult for me to comprehend. I suppose it may be beneficial for gaming or other specialized software. I was definitely wondering why macros couldn't be stored on the device, though, so I'm glad to hear about that development. On a development note, should potential bugs be discussed here or e-mailed to support@? I sent an e-mail yesterday and didn't hear back, so I thought I should ask.

Either way is fine, but If you post on the forum it does allow others to comment on and learn from your posts.

We decided to go with 12 key layers stored to the device for now (to keep the UI simpler). We can add more later if needed, but nobody has requested more that we are aware of. If anyone wants to test the beta software for 12 key layers on 300 series devices, check here.

I don't remember any particular immediate need for more layers on my part, but is there a chance this beta firmware could resolve other issues?

Yes. There are also various bugs resolved in the software, particularly on Mac when saving layouts to the devices. Also, on Mac, it should Close out better. If users want to keep it running they should minimize instead of clicking the X now.

I use 5 layers, and it's hard to muscle-memory remember a few things as it is.

I can imagine some creative ways to use more, but 12 seems more than sufficient.

I have never used more than 5 layers, and really 4 is my normal daily usage.

I keep the 5th layer around for pure QWERTY in case I get hit by a bus and someone needs to use the KeyMouse on my machine. :-) There is no way in Hades they are going to work out my highly custom COLEMAK layout.

Thanks for all the input. One good thing is that if you are using less than 12 layers it will save the rest of the device memory for macros (coming in the future). So if you are only using 4 layers, it will only download the 4 to the devices, but will allow up to 12 max for now.

Macros saved at the hardware level is GREAT news!

5 layers and I couldn’t possibly think of anything else to add to other layers.
